GEL POLISH
WHAT IS GEL POLISH?
Gel polish is not like regular nail polish and dries when you cure it under a LED lamp. Once cured, the gel turns into a hard chemical-resistant coating. QRD’s gel polish system can be used at home and provides a professional, salon-quality finish.
HOW LONG DOES A GEL POLISH MANICURE LAST?
QRD’s Gel Polish will last up till 2-3 weeks for manicures and 3-4 weeks for pedicures. If you find that your nail polish does not last as long, you may be preparing your natural nail incorrectly prior to application.
HOW DO I APPLY GEL POLISH CORRECTLY?
Our instructions are on the inside lid of The Tiny Salon box however you can find detailed instructions with extra tips and tricks, here.
HOW DO I REMOVE GEL POLISH WITHOUT DAMAGING MY NAILS?
Even if you notice lifting on the edges, do not peel off the nail polish as this will cause layers of your natural nail to peel along with it. The soak off method with pure acetone is recommended to remove gel polish, you can find detailed instructions on how to correctly remove your gel polish, here.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY CUTICLES?
The Tiny Salon comes with a cuticle pusher, cuticle nipper and cuticle oil to be used at the end of your manicure or pedicure. All of these items can also be purchased separately here and detailed instructions on how to manage your cuticles, here.
DO I NEED TO BUFF MY NAILS PRIOR TO GEL POLISH APPLICATION?
The Tiny Salon comes with a 180-grit buffer designed to create a surface for the gel polish to adhere to. This can also be purchased separately, here. Detailed instructions on how to buff your nails correctly, here.
HOW LONG DOES THE CURING PROCESS TAKE?
Primer does not need to be cured however our Base Coats, Gel Polishes and Top Coats all need to be cured under our LED Lamp. After painting each coat, you will need to cure under the lamp for 60 seconds. We recommend our customers to paint on three coats of gel polish colour to achieve an opaque finish.
MY NAILS DON’T SEEM TO SET AFTER THE RECOMMENDED CURING TIME
You may experience this issue if you are applying your gel polish in thick layers or not placing the nails directly under the LED lights. You need to remove the gel polish using the soak off method and repeat the steps again but this time ensuring that you apply in thinner layers and ensuring that your nails are placed correctly under the lamp.
MY NAIL TECHNICIAN USUALLY WIPES WITH ALCOHOL THE AFTER THE TOP COAT HAS BEEN CURED, DO I NEED TO DO THIS?
No, our Top Coat is specially formulated to not have the sticky residue after the curing process. Once it’s cured, you’re good to go!
I ALREADY HAVE A LAMP, DO I NEED TO BUY A QRD LED LAMP OR CAN I USE ANY LAMP?
Whilst the technology is the same, our QRD Gel Polish range has been tested with our specific lamp. Curing times may differ between different lamps and you may not get the same results.
HOW SHOULD I STORE MY GEL POLISHES?
Gel polishes should always be stored away from exposure to natural sunlight. It’s not recommended to leave it near a window or in a sun lit room, it should ideally be stored somewhere dark that does not exceed temperatures of 26 degrees.
MY NAIL POLISH IS CURING WHILE I’M PAINTING, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
Gel polish cannot be painted on under direct sunlight. Just a second or two of sunlight exposure will create clumps of semi-cured gel within the polish.
MY NAIL POLISH IS WRINKLING, HOW DO I FIX THIS?
Wrinkled gel polish is a result of incomplete curing. This can happen for two reasons; if the gel polish is applied on too thick or if you have not placed your hand correctly under the LED lamp.
If your gel polish is wrinkled you will need to remove it completely using the soak off method.
Apply in thin layers by scraping off excess polish from the brush before applying it to your nail.
Correct placement of your hand is also crucial, especially when working deeper shades as these require more light intensity. Ensure that all your nails are directly underneath the light source.
IS QRD GEL POLISH CRUELTY-FREE?
Yes, we are animal lovers and it was very important for us to use a manufacturer that does not test on animals or use any ingredients derived from animal by-products.
IS QRD GEL POLISH TOXIC?
There are eight toxic ingredients that are commonly used in gel nail polish formulas, and these have been identified to be: Toulene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Ethyl Tosylamide, Xylene and Parabens. QRD confirms that none of its gel polishes contain any of these harmful ingredients.
